Wheatcroft School Walking Bus
Wheatcroft School in Hertford has a walking bus which has been running for nearly a year. There are about 34 children, each of whom has a representative that walks at least one day a week (representatives include mothers, fathers, grandparents and aunts). The introduction of the bus came about as a result of a safer routes to school project. This included alterations to the road and pavement outside the school, the building of a pedestrian crossing and re-siting the school crossing patrol. The children walk with the bus every day come rain or shine!
I have two children aged 7 and 9, and they enjoy walking with their friends and arrive wide awake ready for their day at school. I would recommend it to anybody!
