Promoting Walk To School Schemes and
High Visibility Clothing for Children

Phil Sawford MP joined the official launch of the Geddington Walking Bus on Friday 9 January 2004. The event was a huge success with around 100 children taking part. Anglia Television recorded the launch and broadcast a feature on Anglia News that evening.

A few parents started the Walking Bus scheme on 4 November 2003 from Grange Road and Skeffington Close. Children and parents from other parts of the village heard about and saw the Walking Bus. Over the next week two more routes had been set up from Newton Road and Chase View Road. Within a fortnight a third of the children in the school had taken part. The school helped to promote the scheme, high visibility tabards were borrowed from the Council and the scheme gained momentum. Parents not living in Geddington or who have to go straight on to work were encouraged to “Park and Stride”; drive to the village hall or the Star car park from where they can join the Walking Bus. All children were at that time accompanied by their parents.
