The Kettering Park Schools Walking Bus was launched in September 2001 and was one of the measures that came out of the introduction of a Green Travel Plan in both schools. But the real launch pad was parents' concerns about parking and congestion.
The school has a wide catchment area and some parents have no choice but to bring their cars to school. However, traffic levels around the school can be very dangerous, a situation not helped by inconsiderate parking. So a group of parents put their heads together and, with support from teachers, governors, the County Council Road Safety Team, the local community police officer and members of the wider community, came up with their own solution: the walking bus.
